Public Education Thursday (3/4/2010)

So today was a day full of public education. I started my day @ Hyattsville Elementary School. That's my normal Thursday routine, but today I did not teach instrumental music. I decided I would go to all seven of the classrooms where I normally pull out students. Our school system is preparing for the standardized tests next week. I wanted to help out, so I cancelled my lessons today.

After being in seven different public school classrooms I went to my Leading Instructional Improvement class at the University of MD, College Park. We had a two hour discussion on the pros and cons of accountability. It was fascinating ... we were talking about how data has helped identify specific areas in need of improvement but also how it seems we are teaching to the test as well.

So that's my day filled with public school education and pontification about the restoration of our proliferation.

Camp Arena Video / Snow Vacation

Well today is my 7th snow day of the year. I hope we end school before my first day @ Camp Arena Stage. Oh, by the way, here is the promotional video which includes a segment of yours truly:



On another note ... I bought Mari an attachment for her mixer a while back, and last night she used it to chop some carrots ... chopped carrots add a lot to a salad:

For the first time in a while, Mari and I tag teamed on making dinner. She made the couscous and salad, and I grilled (indoor style) the pork chops:

Hope you have a great snow day ... for us it's been nice not having to leave the house early in the morning. We've been able to read our Bibles in the morning. It's been helpful to start by focusing on Jesus dying on the cross for us. I prayed today that once the regular routine comes back that we would be able to keep this a priority.
